Our right to anonymity is being violated daily by security cameras, website forms, applications for everything and anything. We are no longer able to maintain our privacy; we must comply or be out of the game. We might resent the intrusion - but feel powerless and seduced. For my newest body of work I shot photographs and conducted improvised interviews on the beach. Within my piece “I.R.S” a man talks about why he is angry at the government, the work entitled “Big Al” is a list of all the women Al has “been” with and what was wrong with them, “Keeping Up” lists a man’s possessions and ends with his confession that though he has a lot “he wants more”, “O.A.” lists all the diets this woman has succeeded on and “I Was a Ballerina” contains the laments of a middle-aged woman in a pink bikini.
Each mixed media painting is 96" tall x 36" wide painted on unstretched primed canvas. Originally installed as a series of 10 at the Orange County Fair in 2004 where I was the Featured Artist, and then a the Mills College Art Gallery in Oakland, California.
